Another function that thesafety officerperforms while they are completing scene surveys and monitoring of incident conditions is to evaluate the progress of fire suppression activities.
Knowledge ofsuppressionactivities is key to this function. The safety officer must be aware of factors that indicate progress, crew location and operational needs of the companies to evaluate the effectiveness of the operation. Progress reports from crews along with visual cues will often provide feedback.
Consider the indicators of companyprogressthat are provided and answer the sample scenarios as if you were the incident safety officer at a fire scene. Consider that crews are operating inIDLHareas that are toxic in smoke, high in temperature, and low in visibility.
