Best not to use any oils as the dirt and grit stick to them and causes them stick. We give the rails a rub down with a damp cloth to clean off as much dirt as possible and apply a silicon spray ( we also use this for lubricating moving parts and rollers on our ladders as the dirt doesn't stick like it does to oils ). How often we do this depends of course depends on how regularly we are out. As a minimum we give them a clean once a month as the silicon spray dries out......

Silicon spray, is what ROM told us. This was straight from the factory that is about 10 miles from us.
