Pump panel flow meters?

Can anyone tell me why we would NOT put flow meters on our engine's pump panels along with pressure gauges? We do a lot of math in our head (sometimes on the cab door with a grease pencil) trying to figure out friction loss for a given hose length, diameter, and elevation so we can get the desired flow out the end of our hose lines. All to find out the calculations aren't really close at all.

Any reason we don't just put a flow meter at each discharge and skip all the uncertain math?

The main reason is probably cost. The individual meters aren't bad but when you start multiplying by the number of discharge you want them on it gets expensive. With that said, they are a great asset. Like you said, I can adjust the pressure so the guys get the right flow.
