Hello Joe.

Happy New Year. I hope 2012 is an excellent year for you.

Thank you for your kind words and positive feedback regarding my book and FDIC key note address.

As for physical fitness and the stairs...

I try to do some sort of stair climb every shift. Most of the time I get it done. My most productive workouts are on the weekends when I have a little extra time between runs to do an elaborate workout.

My favorite workout is to climb 55 flights in full gear with some extra tools, TIC, lantern, etc. I do this portion with my coat off, and carried over my air cylinder to reduce the heat buildup.

I take the elevator back to the lobby. From here, I do another 55 flights, but this time I go on air. 45-minute cylinder...

This is a good workout, takes about an hour from start to finish. I think about the 9-11 firefighters (Any Fredericks and others I knew) while I'm climbing.

This keeps me in shape and prepared for the real deal, as well as our annual 9-11 memorial stair climb.

有些日子我有限的时间我就会去up once.

I usually do it in gear, but will also do it occasionally in gym gear. More reps., and pushups every ten, alternating with sit ups every ten.

Some times I'll do an air consumption test. Go on air at the lobby, climb up, and try to make it all the way up, and all the way down (via the stairs) and out of the building before running out of air (45-minute air cylinder). This is a great air management exercise. I keep track of all my times, (Scoot 4.5) Two green lights, one green light, yellow light, red light, empty... This really gives me some good, solid, quantifiable information regarding how much time I really have, entry air, work time air, exit air, emergency air, etc...

Let me know if you have any questions.

Take care Brother...

Joe,
We are not new to the quint respnses, our 70' platform is replacing a 65' telesquirt that is going out of service. With this new truck we will be attempting to move more towards a traditional truck company ops and further away from quint activities. I know we will not be able to be toatally seperated since this unit will be housed in a station without an engine. It also has to be set up for 2nd or 3rd out ALS responses.

I would love to see a list of the equipment you have on your sutphen and how you like the truck.

thanks,
