- 我ve been in the fire service 13 years and everyday I learn something new. I guess the first time I can remember being drawn to this wonderful profession is when I was probably 2 years old and a two-story house across the street from where I lived caught fire and I remember watching the flames and the firefighters work. That image was forever burned in my brain. I was formerly on a fire department in a neighboring county where I served as a lieutenant for 2 years until I met my husband and moved to where I am now. He, too, is a firefighter with the City of Hickory, NC. Together, we run calls and serve our community, and we instruct other firefighters to become the best they can be while keeping each other safe. We value the heritage and tradition of the fire service and the brotherhood that is found nowhere else but here!! My full time job is as a registered nurse in our local emergency room. But my heart will always be in the fire service. We are member s of Tablerock FOOLS! FTM-PTB. My husband is very supportive of what I do and is the best thing that has ever happened to me! As you know, this career is tough on relationships!
