Some many factors come into play here but here is another question: Why didn't the Chief's that appeared in the video at the end put out a call on the radio to stop the exercise once they saw the trainees had no charged handline going up to the door or attacking the fire. Why didn't the chauffeur charge the line when they were still outside? Communication and safety are ALWAYS key elements at any time we involve a risk to ourselves!

It is easy to get tunnel vision, and this exemplifies that! We really have to weigh the benefit of performing demos to the public with "live trainings" verses the costs of when we look like a bunch of Joey's literally running around the scene in shorts. That poor kid crying is probably having nightmares still.

This video works great to remind young firefighters that their line is actually a thirty to fifty foot tool. Don't act like a moth to the flame. Also, watch it again, but listen to the audio for the first time someone realizes that something is wrong. "SHE" sounds like she is about five years old. Lots of lessons to learn from this!

No matter how many times I see this I get sick. Did one person in charge ever think twice about this, I guess not. What a stupid way to get sued, demoted or fired. No control, leadership or common sense.

This is definetly a WTF! But I have to agree with Frank this is the result of limited training. I know some people think that is the perfect example of why we should no longer do Live Burn training. I think it is the opposite this is the REASON we nned to conduct live burn training and yes do it in acquired structures! We should conduct training in the safest manner possible which includes experienced people on the hose line and the most experience should be on the RIT line. In past live burn trainings we always used two back up lines one outside as RIT crew and one inside with the Safety Officers that were always inside with the crews. Training can be done safely it just requires more planning!
