FDIC 2022 Preview: Modern Extrication: Overcoming the Challenges of Change

Lead Instructor: Assistant Chief/Operations Randall Wells, Denver (CO) Fire Department

This auto extrication class provides students with the skills to handle vehicles of today and the future. Instruction follows leading edge extrication techniques and introduces real-life rescue experience. From basic principles to the newest methodology, rescuers will learn advanced alternatives for general application to present day vehicles as well as technique adjustments for forward industry changes. The details taught allow attendees to practice new techniques for modern vehicle changes even if newer vehicles are not available for training. Vehicles are a commodity, and this course shows how to be” green” with vehicles available to them in a manner that conducts systematic iterations to achieve the most out of the vehicle and their training. The class will focus on body mechanics to prevent fatigue at longer incidents and fluidity of motion between operators to meet rescue objectives with minimal personnel. Advanced extrication isn’t the incident or scenario; it’s the operator.
