The expectations and demands placed on chiefs create new challenges for leaders in today’s fire service. With changing community needs, the role of the fire service must change as well. The 21st-century chief has different expectations for the officer corps of the organization. This class will explore the changing role of the fire officer. Participants will learn what it takes to be a successful fire officer in the modern era, the changes occurring in the fire service requiring a shift of our leaders, the characteristics of an effective leader, and the role the company officer plays in shaping the 21st century fire service.
