Jul. 21—For Spring firefighters, the concept of heroism goes beyond what some may think of as traditional firefighting duties. Department members are known as heroes not only to those they rescue from raging blazes or apartment balconies, but also to the families they equip with fire prevention resources and even the animals they help rehome or reunite with owners.

A badge pinning ceremony last weekend welcomed several new members to the firefighting team. Now, the Spring Fire Department is seeking applicants for their next cohort of new firefighters.

The department has put a call out for those with “the desire to serve, the courage to act, and the ability to perform,” inviting anyone interested in joining the team to apply for the upcoming class of full-time firefighters.

Pay for full-time firefighters starts at $58,864.32 a year and benefits detailed in the job description include:

— “Fully-paid premiums for employee Health, Dental & Vision insurance.

— Partial payment of premiums for family Health, Dental & Vision insurance.

— Paid sick and personal time off.

— TCDRS Retirement with 2.5:1 match at retirement”

The deadline to submit applications and copies of certifications is 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 29.

Volunteer firefighter opportunities are also available with information sessions coming soon.

Just last weekend, the Spring Fire Department welcomed 14 new full-time and volunteer firefighters who were celebrated with a badge pinning ceremony Saturday afternoon at Station 71.

八个新的全职time firefighters — George Castro, Cody Humes, Matthew Martinez, David Nettles, Cameron Richardson, Jakob Stauder, George Taylor, and Christopher Yager — had wrapped up a three-week orientation academy that same morning.

The department’s six new volunteer firefighters spent months training and undergoing tests to earn their State Firefighter’ & Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas certifications. Christopher Carrero, Edward Morales, and Efren Ortiz received Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certification; and Blake Hliva, Derek Inawo, and Willie Jimenez received Firefighter I certification.
