Tulsa (OK) Firefighters Sue for Unpaid Overtime

According to a report fromKTUL, a lawsuit filed by Tulsa (OK) Fire Department firefighters demanding what they consider to be unpaid overtime is expected to grow during the week.

Tulsa Firefighter Union President Matt Lay said that the city is obligated to pay its firefighters for hours worked in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Sara Faulman, one of the lawyers for the union, said that there are an estimated 600 firefighters involved in the suit. Despite the initial filing being limited to 10 members, the lawyers intend to file additional consent forms for hundreds more this week.

So, why was the overtime unpaid? Faulman said that they do not know why, but that there is no justification for denying the firefighters the pay owed to them.
